Governance and Democratization

Throughout the years and several successfully implemented projects, IDRA has always been among leading NGOs advocating for and promoting democracy and good governance in Albania. IDRA has offered a vast experience in public sector reforms and anti-corruption strategies. In specific projects, the work carried out has entirely or partially been focus on supporting a transparent, effective, and accountable public administration, and promoting the rule of law.

As the role of the Albanian civil society is increasing, IDRA’s work has been notable in building coalitions and promoting citizen participation in government; leading anti-corruption activities; playing a proactive role in public policy debates; informing and educating the public; delivering trainings to public administration; producing research papers and assisting to eliminate administrative barriers; etc.

On local governance, IDRA not only has been among the major local partners of the USAID projects implemented through years in Albania, but has successfully carried out a number of projects by itself. The work includes technical assistance on deepening the decentralization process; empowering citizens and making local governments more participatory; improving the ability and capacity of local governments to become better administrators; measuring the performance through opinion surveys; increasing transparency and citizen involvement; facilitating dialogue between government, business, and donor representatives; etc. This experience, on the other hand, has helped IDRA to grow as an innovative NGO and strengthen its research capacity.
