State Matura- a quality assessment 2012

This project was commissioned by the Open Society Foundation in Albania (OSFA) in 2012. The aim of this research study was to assess the quality of state Matura process through: a) creating a system of measurable and comparable quality indicators of state matura, b) assessing the connection between pre-university and university systems regarding the quality of students and parties’ expectations from the process, c) exploring the level of compliance of the results achieved in the high school and first year of faculty, d) exploring the factors that might bring change in the system of students evaluation in pre-university and university systems like motivation, evaluation system in university, teaching load, preference for the branch, etc, e) identifying perceptions of different interested parties on the quality of State Matura and its “heritage” in the university system – Students, teachers lecturers.

This study consisted in the conduction of 320 face-to-face interviews with students of 4 main faculties (faculties of law, economy, social sciences, and natural sciences) as well as 6 focus group discussions with university lecturers of the first year, students, and high school teachers.
